In May, we celebrate National Home Remodeling Month, which happens to include a three-day weekend for knocking out some of those projects around the house that you’ve been putting off!
You don’t have to remodel the entire bathroom to make an improvement to the space. Here are a few ways to make one change that can make a big difference in your bathroom:
1. Switch to Tile
One of the greatest myths about material selection in the bathroom is that tile is harder to clean and maintain than other materials. The truth is, acrylic and fiber glass suffer from mildew and soap scum in the bathroom just as much as tile and grout. Tile gives you a much broader selection in terms of color, texture, and design.
2. Convert your Bathtub to a Shower
What a lot of people don’t consider is that you can turn your tub or tub/shower combination into a large shower without having to re-plumb your bathroom. The new fixtures and shower heads will need to be roughed-in but the location of the drain can stay the same.
3. Install an Exhaust Fan
Although not required if you have a window in your bathroom, exhaust fans make a huge difference in any bathroom. If you already have one installed, check to make sure that it was put in properly. New code requires that all fans pump their exhaust through the roof to the outside of the home. It used to be that many fans would pump their exhaust into the attic which can cause big moisture and mold problems over time.
